What is BASECAMP

What is Basecamp?

“It all starts here.”  In high elevation climbing, “basecamp” is never the destination; it is a temporary stay preparing climbers to summit the mountain.  Basecamp was created with this concept in mind.  The focus is not simply on providing an exciting camp experience, but on genuine discipleship.  Basecamp will engage, equip, and elevate students to move upward in their pursuit of knowing Jesus Christ.

Engage -  Not every student attending a Christian camp has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Basecamp will engage students with the Gospel offering them an invitation to begin their journey with God.

Equip - Through biblical teaching and small group settings, Basecamp cultivates an atmosphere of discipleship to equip students to live out their faith once they leave camp.

Elevate -  For every follower of Christ there is the call to greater maturity. Basecamp provides large group worship where students are challenged to elevate their personal commitment to the Savior.

The Sherpa Program.
Historically some of the best guides and climbers at Mt. Everest have been local Nepalese climbers also known as Sherpas. Why are the Sherpas the best? It is mainly due to the fact that the Sherpas are more acclimated to the altitude and environment on Mt. Everest. It takes them far less time to acclimate for each leg of the trip, and they are used more often than any other group of people to help lead, guide, and rescue those attempting to reach the summit. The Sherpa Program was born from this idea.

At BaseCamp we feel that college students are more acclimated and are closer to the environment that our students face each day. That allows them to reach students in a way no other group can. The only thing they lack is the training to help lead, guide, and rescue others. BaseCamp wants to offer a place to train college students to be the next generation church leaders that we need.

Maybe you don’t have enough leaders to lead your students for the week or you and your church feel called to help develop next generation leaders. Then invest in the Sherpa Program. You can sponsor a leader and pay their way to serve at the camp in the same way you could sponsor a teenager to attend.  We will do the vetting and training of these students so that they will do a great job at camp. I hope you and your church will pray about investing in the Sherpa Program at BaseCamp.

We are believing and expecting God to do great things through the college students that come through this program.
